AdirondackOutlawsFrontCoverThe Lake Placid-North Elba Historical Society is pleased to announce the first program of its 2016 Winter Lecture Series on Wednesday, January 27, 2016 at Smoke Signals in Lake Placid.  The lecture will begin at 7:00 pm with attendees encouraged to come for dinner prior to the event.  This opening program in the four-part series is titled “Adirondack Outlaws, Bad Boys and Lawless Ladies,” presented by Niki Kourofsky.

Kourofsky, author of “Adirondack Outlaws,” will take listeners on a rip-roaring ride through Adirondack history, introducing a cast of infamous scofflaws and scallywags – and a few murderous maniacs – that lend a new meaning to “Forever Wild.”

Kourofsky holds a bachelor’s degree in history, with a concentration in museum studies, and a master’s in writing and editing. She is currently a senior editor at “Adirondack Life.” Her Adirondack roots run generations deep, grounded in the ore sand of the one-time mining community of Lyon Mountain.

Lectures will be offered monthly, January through April, 2016.  All programs offered in the Lake Placid-North Elba Historical Society’s Winter Lecture Series are free and open to the public. The series will continue at on Wednesday, February 24, 2017 at the Lake Placid Center for the Arts with Historic Saranac Lake, presenting “Hotel Hope,” a film about the history of Will Rogers Memorial Hospital.
