The Lake Placid-North Elba Historical Society presents the film screening of “Hotel Hope” with Historic Saranac Lake

The Lake Placid-North Elba Historical Society announces the second installment of the 2016 Winter Lecture Series scheduled on Wednesday, February 24, 2016, 7:00pm at the Lake Placid Center for the Arts in Lake Placid.  Presented by Historic Saranac Lake, the film “Hotel Hope” tells the story of the Will Rogers Memorial Hospital, where those affected by tuberculosis in the entertainment industry came to seek treatment. Originally planned to be a short 15 minute film, research had surfaced more information to create an in depth story.  “Hotel Hope” features original footage and contemporary interviews with former patients and employees of the hospital. Lake Placid-North Elba Historical Society Presents: “Adirondack Outlaws” with Niki Kourofsky

The Lake Placid-North Elba Historical Society is pleased to announce the first program of its 2016 Winter Lecture Series on Wednesday, January 27, 2016 at Smoke Signals in Lake Placid.  The lecture will begin at 7:00 pm with attendees encouraged to come for dinner prior to the event.  This opening program in the four-part series is titled "Adirondack Outlaws, Bad Boys and Lawless Ladies," presented by Niki Kourofsky. Fall Happenings: New faces, Additions and Field Trip

Walking Lake Placid’s History

April, 2014 Inspiration can strike anywhere at any time. For former Historical Society trustee Sue Cameron, it happened two years ago while in Saranac Lake when she noticed a walking tour map in town. She realized there was nothing similar in Lake Placid and brought it to the attention of the historical society Board. The idea took hold and Sue took on the task of creating such a map that would highlight Lake Placid’s rich history. Historical Society Updates

October, 2013   The Lake Placid-North Elba Historical Society has enjoyed one of the highest rates of museum attendance in many years. Many locals and visitors alike came to enjoy and engage with our new photographic exhibit “Developing our History, Finding Our Family; The Stedman and Moses Collection of Historic Photographs. People, places and events were identified. Friends and family came and visited us together, some for the first time in many years, and told each other stories of days gone by.
