Heritage Day 2016

Do you have hidden treasure in your attic?  Do you have a family heirloom that you are unsure of the value?  Do you love the atmosphere of “Antiques Roadshow?” The Lake Placid-North Elba Historical Society’s annual Heritage Day will be held on Saturday August 13th at The History Museum, 242 Station Street, in Lake Placid.  As part of that event local expert Ted Comstock will be available from 10:00-1:00 to provide an appraisal of antiques and collectibles and perhaps “fill in the blanks” for those unsure of the age and origin of their objects. New Exhibit for this Summer

For many years the general store has been the permanent exhibit in the second room of the History Museum. Visitors were able to see housewares and clothing items that would have been sold many years ago.  Discussions were held at Museum Committee meetings, and an idea came up to create a new permanent exhibit that tells the history of how our community was developed. The project was fully underway last fall, after the Museum closed for the season. Students Learn About Local History Through Interviews

By: Carla Eilo This spring, students from the Northwood School have been collaborating with the Lake Placid-North Elba Historical Society by participating in a special project which engages them with members of the community by conducting oral history interviews. As the Historical Society prepares a new exhibit, a timeline of Lake Placid History, they had identified topics of local history that would be exhibited such as sports, hotels, and industry. “History of Golf in Lake Placid” – Presented by J. Peter Martin

  The Lake Placid-North Elba Historical Society announces the fourth and final installment of the 2016 Winter Lecture Series scheduled on Wednesday, April 27, 2016 at Hotel North Woods. The lecture will begin at 7:00 pm with attendees encouraged to support our host establishment by dining prior to the event. Peter Martin, PGA Pro and Author will be leading a discussion of the history of golf in Lake Placid. The Lake Placid-North Elba Historical Society announces the third installment of the 2016 Winter Lecture Series scheduled on Wednesday, March 23, 2016 at Simply Gourmet/ the ‘dack Shack in the Butler Room.
